A Brief History

Star Wars needs little introduction to Sci-Fi buffs. The original Star Wars film was released by 20th Century Fox in 1977. The second movie, The Empire Strikes Back was issued in 1980 and the third, Return of the Jedi in 1983. In 1999, The Phantom Menace, the first in a new prequel trilogy of films was released, followed by two more – Attack of The Clones and Revenge of the Sith, released in 2002 and 2005 respectively. Whilst well received, the later films are not regarded by many purists with as much affection as the original three.

 

From a Collectors point of view, Star Wars has brought with it a large amount of related merchandise. Indeed, it is from the merchandising that Star Wars Director George Lucas made his fortune as he was granted full merchandising rights by 20th Century Fox, a decision which cost them a fortune in revenue.
